Tape is definitely my friend. Another thing I’ve learned is if I’m not sure of how to do something ask those with more experience, since there are others who have encountered the problem. There hasn’t been a question yet that I haven’t gotten at least one good solution to.

A dull blade does cut deeper. It takes more pressure to get the edge to start cutting when dull and the tendency is to push the edge into a slice (the most efficient use of the edge). Pushing the skin gives a lesser sensation and we tend to push harder so once it begins we can't pull out in time. Where a sharp edge you feel the cut quicker and tend to pull off the pressure lessening the cut.
