    Anvil in the hotel

I don't know. Looking at the front i have the impression it is fairly old, because of the 'church windows' style. It is peculiar looking with the slope.

I am a new licensed barber

Imo, the best way to learn shaving is shaving yourself. You can learn quite a bit from Youtube videos. Since it concerns a job, you might want to focus on shavette type razors with replaceable blades.

    Shop Tips and Tricks

In this type of knife construction, I use a method that was explained to me by Gunther Lobach from Scorpio Design. There is a layer of black Carbon Fiber against the bolster on each side. This is to increase contrast, and also to make etching easier. The handle is ground after gluing in the...

Most things including making razors are not that difficult. Most of the time required to do so is just to learn what mistakes not to make on a grinder.

    Wootz kitchen knife in progress

Finally back home, and i spent some time grinding the handle this evening. Here you can finally see how the handle is constructed. Now polishing the blade again, then the handle and then etching. Almost ready now.

    In the glass

Enjoying a very smooth 65.1% grappa from amareno grapes. I bought it in Italy. My kind of drink. I prefer less, but stronger. What are you guys having?

    Anvil in the hotel

Roman era fortifications. The city is remarkably well preserved. It's a national heritage site. People can 'adopt ' wall per meter so on the inside of the ramparts there are amall plaques everywhere to signify who is paying for the upkeep. In Belgium we also have plenty of roman era walls and...

    Anvil in the hotel

This was the town wall. You could still just go up the ramparts and just walk the circumference of the town.

    Anvil in the hotel

The last hotel on our way home had a historical theme (small wonder, it exists since 1603 and is located in a historical town) and had some blacksmithing stuff as decoration. This anvil was nice.

Pronunciation is not a problem actually. Proper Dutch as spoken in Flanders (not the local dialects) is extremely similar to Japanese. Not the language but just pronunciation. My parents raised me using formal Dutch instead of a local dialect. Many of our dialects almost sound like a different...

I am just happy that there is still a bunch of people who like the idea of having a place where a group of friends can hang out to talk shop about razor making and maintenance. I would say that as a 'community forum' this place is not the biggest success but then the forge section of srp is...

Next week i will be enrolling in Japanese evening classes. I've been doing a lot on my own already. I know the phonetic alphabets and know about 450 words in kanji. I have basic grammar. But the huge blind spot for me is verbal communication. Speaking and listening. That's something that is...

That kind of time is priceless. Even if for you it is just cutting open some rocks, for him it was probably awesome. Just doing stuff with them that they don't do at home is a big part of what kids like so much about grandparents.

Kinda like me and booze. Not a big drinker, but when I have a glass of something I prefer something with more alcohol than water. Many people don't understand how I can taste anything at all if the drink has 65% alcohol in it.

That pineapple thing sounds like one of the easiest things you could make. If you went to the maximum of the scale in Thailand i consider that impressive indeed. That would be like a mouthful of molten lava.

I cannot speak on green eschers. Never had one. However hht relies on toothy-ness of the edge. I know that that is an issue with coticule edges as well. So I would not read too much into the HHT test when comparing natural stones and synthetic stones. I do like flea market hone finds simply...
