Feather razor

I know it's not a 'real' razor, but The feather is my weekday razor for getting stubble off of my face without wanting to prep, lather, or put a lot of time into it. Weekend shaves are for indulging, but for weekdays I mainly care about not having to wear beard covers if I should need to go in the plant.

I do like my feather and a Kai kamisori type. The wrapped blades work best for me.
I recently learned that the feather blades are a bit wider as they are named "pro" in the description and so aggressiveness is assured by buying the level of blade wanted. Hard for me to explain but tis what itis...

I know that the Pro are more aggressive and in fact whenever I use a fresh pro blade, I am guaranteed to have blood all over my face. Not in a dramatic sense, but every little bump will be gone :)

I do know whereof you speak. I used my Alumagoose this AM and a pro blade. Fortunately, the blade angle of the Alumagoose is perfect for my needs. No blood nor weepers. I get quite a few shaves from it. I am getting a bit shaky in my dotage and having a good close shave available is wonderful. I also use a Schick e-3, a Gem, a black beauty, and a Q, so I need not fear the results of an aggressive blade. Straights are now only a couple mornings a week.
Good lather helps with all, glide is super important for an aggressive razor.

Yes lather is even more important than normal.

Peter i also use a feather for travel because they don't care about moisture, need no stropping etc

Bruno, I will probably eventually get one to travel with when I go light. It seems like it would be very convenient, and not a problem with TSA, to pack away in a carry-on as long as you don't have any blades. You can always find blades in a drugstore at your destination.

Did you say you dry shave with a feather... AC razor...? I am impressed!
This is the best summary I have seen for the different blades feather offers.

Feather blades both DE and the single edge AC blade are almost too sharp.
They are marvelous after two shaves... some run them down a cork a couple times
before using them DE or single edge I do not cork mine.

Bullgoose ( https://bullgooseshaving.com/collections/se-razor-blades )
apparently has other blades for the AC razor.
Three versions of the Kai Captain blade family, a Schick P-30 Proline Artist Club blade.
So four Feather, three Kai, one Schick.. I might try them all as soon as I master my new coticle ;-)

Who corks their razors?
That includes hand honed open blade razors. I have been challenged by my 30K hmmm.. I wonder if.

And even if you want to use actual feather blades, or just want to be sure you don't have to hunt around, you can always mail a packet of blades ahead, one way.

The main reason for using a feather is the convenience and lack of emotional attachment, combined with the fact that you can shave like you're used to.

Being that I have never used either, I'm curious how much different one like the Dovo shavette is where you break the d/e blades in half. I know they are much less expensive than a Feather and wondering if it's worth spending the extra money for the Feather. Also, I think the d/e blades would more readily available when traveling. Sometimes I grab a rental car at the airport and drive for a while before I get a room, so mailing is not an option.

A quick answer is that the Feather, Kai, and some other Kamisori types use a longer single edge blade. Think of a long Schick type injector blade. They are also a lot solider and heavier.

Aye. I have used both. Basically the feather blades are a bit longer. They're also sharper, and last longer.
On the flip side, they're a bit more expensive.

In terms of construction, the feather razors feel more solid / less wobbly. And they're made from materials that are very heat resistant so you can boil them.

As to which I use most, it bolls down to ergonomics, The Feather Artists Club SS is a bit straighter shank than the C.J.B. I gave away my Feather folding kamisori Feather Artists Club SS, because it was clumsy to my hand. I found the kamisori types to be as pleasant to use as the true Wa Kamisori and, the cutting edge is longer, about 2 ". The C.J.B. is a bit more difficult to replace the blade as the patent workaround is a bit clumsy but not a deal breaker. Both may be disassembled fairly easily and boiled should one wish.
Also, I didn't even think about the DE razors that Feather makes...Duh

Traveling... That is the bane of blade shaving.
I admit to buying some plastic tossables for travel.
The Yellow handle BiC razors give me one or two ok shaves.
I do pack a shave soap stick and a well used boar brush. With a good
lather I can tolerate even enjoy the single blade BiC thing.
What I cannot tolerate are the multiple blade things.

A three part DE razor and a pack with two or three DE blades
might get past the TSA. Keep the sharp bits separated from
the DE in case they get ambitious.
