Happy new year Scott and everyone else! I agree. We should all at least have 1 challenging goal for this year. I have a goal for the number of straight razors and knives I want to make. But the most challenging for me is I want to make 2 high end kitchen knives for my new kitchen. One in stainless Damascus, and one in stainless wootz.

Last year we built our new kitchen. It took much longer than anticipated thanks to a contractor who sold himself as gold but turn out to be only 'gold-ish' and I ended up doing a massive amount of work myself. Other than that, the family is healthy and happy so I mustn't complain too much :)

When I said last year was just awful I wish it was only dealing with a contractor screw up. My wife's 41 year old Niece was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the fall of 2016. Her Mom and Dad died years ago and my wife and I plus my wife's 98 mother are/were her only immediate family in town. Her brother had just taken a job at the other end of the country. My wife and I spent over a year getting her to medical appointments and visiting her in hospital during her various stays there. She put up a hell of a fight and made her 42nd birthday in October 2017 but died a few weeks short of Christmas 2017. You never want to see a loved one, anyone actually, go through that. Yea, 2017 was just awful. Never want to got through that again, once in a lifetime is enough for me. So cheer up things could be worse.

We always wish each other good health. And it sounds like a cliche but it's true. good health is the most important thing there is. My brother has chronic illnesses so I know a bit about dealing with that. I also have several grandparents who suffered Cancer. Regardless of what a person believes in, aside from the matter of death itself, a drawn out death is a burden for the person itself and all the loved ones close by.

I always try to keep a healthy perspective on the things that annoy me. My grandparents went through a lot in the war, and grandfather spent part of the war imprisoned in Fort Breendonck. So whenever I feel sorry for myself, I try to think of my grandfather and how he would laugh about how trivial those problems seem when compared to being starved and tortured by the nazis. Mind you he never talked about the war, that I know of. I meant I imagine what he would think compared to my petty problems.

Anyway, May 2018 bring you lots of good health for you and all your family Bob!

Yes, exactly Bruno. We don't always appreciate that there is always someone who is worse off at the time we go through our personal troubles. Wishing people the best of health is really the best wish anyone can bestow on you.
