Enjoying a very smooth 65.1% grappa from amareno grapes. I bought it in Italy. My kind of drink. I prefer less, but stronger.

What are you guys having?

Time to resurrect this thread.
Today we finished this bottle. It was my wedding present to my wife, 19 years ago today.

The quality is is unbelievably good. I'm working on a deal for a new 30years ago bottle of springbank. It was very expensive then. A 30 year old today is ludicrous expensive. 4 figures. But a custom chef knife will takevsome of the sting out of that.

Very nice bottle, can almost taste it, and yes 30 year old is not cheap. I’ve been looking at some offerings of bourbon in that range, but you only live once

I try not to hold on to regrets, but one I can't shake is that I wasn't in a position to pick this up when I was at the Dalwhinnie distillery back in 2014...

The whisky shop where I buy my good stuff has WAY more expensive stuff than that. up to 5 figure prices.
He told me there is a bigger market for 4 figure bottles than 3 figure bottles. Because 3 figure bottles are for people who still need to consider the price and weigh it against other purchases. People who buy 4 figure bottles don't give a damn about money and just want what they want. And if someone else can't afford it, it's even better.

The most ridiculous one I've seen in person was a bottle of (I think - it was about 20 years ago...) 50 year old something or other for #15,000 UK pounds. Since the town attracts hordes of golfers with deep, deep pockets from around the world I wasn't too surprised to hear the guy say they usually sell a fair number of spendy bottles like that every year. #20,000 seems to to be their top end at the moment...

To put things in perspective, I used to shop there when I was a grad student because they were right behind our department and had 3 for #5 beer and 3 for #15 wine deals. :)

With Covid and the Plant shutdown it's less and less likely I will be there next year. But feel free to hold it until 2023 :p

I've been going to the same whisky shop for 20 years, all the way back to when the owner was running the store in his attic as a hobby. Thinking back to those days makes me regret not buying bottles by the box because those were the days when you could still buy bottles of 30 year old Dailuaine for under 100 dollar.

In any case I am currently sipping a fine 23 year old whisky I got for my birthday last year.
