Make sure your stamp is right side up!

While checking a new to me razor today I found this.

At first I thought it said STEET but looking closer I see the L was upside down.

Someone had a bad day.

I wonder how it ended up like that, because that is an L upside down, but coming from the other side if you know what I mean. If you'd take the capital L and then rotated it 180 degrees, the horizontal bar would be pointing to the left, not the right.

Remindes me of the time I ground the finger notch in a tail on the bottom instead of the top.

Yeah, your right about it being backwards. Maybe it's really a T and the left arm is just broke off?

It looks to well spaced to be single stamps so the original stamp must have been made with the L upside down.

I think it is an L instead of a broken T because if you look at the rest of the letters using this font they have an "extra" leg off to one side.

Therefore my title might be wrong. Instead it should maybe read make sure you make your stamp right.

yeah your right. If it was a T with the arm broke off it would still be spelled wrong.

Steet is a mountain in Norway and a family name but refined steet doesn't make sense unless it is a mistake.

I did this ONCE on a knife, all my stamps now have a ground line to indicate the thumb position.

It's interesting to think how many they made before they noticed. If there was still a big collector scene it might have been valuable just because it was one of only a couple. Like how stamps with misprints can be valuable.

there used to be an event in Belgium and Netherlands called 'bookfest' where publishers dump books for 1 or 2 euro because something is wrong with them. Sometimes you wouldn't be able to see what was wrong, but other times they had a big typo right in the middle of the title. I have one science fiction book called 'Hypeion' that should have been titled 'Hyperion'. And the title was in a huge font, filling the top half of the cover.

Imagine having to explain having missed that, when your boss is dumping a container of unsaleable books
I would have liked to know who was chewed out over this

I haven't had this problem yet (knock on wood) but I have had a blade that I forgot to mark, and I didn't notice until after heat treatment.

Did a razor at Charlie's once without a mark, didn't notice until after HT as well.

I have yet to come up with a mark. The few things I have made are unmarked.

I have a few ideas...........

Well, I made the small chisel that I use for my mark
One time a guy went through a ton of trouble to make a touchmark for me.
Only he made the stamp identical to my mark, instead of making the mirror image. I never used it.
