I just found this quote from Peter where he explains why he deviated slightly from the original (Peter is an expert on authentic sword geometry)

"Another thing that is worth pointing out is that this is an original sword. It is not a copy of any other sword and there is only ever going to be one like it. I study the work of the ancient masters to learn the hows and whys. In my own work I am in no way obligated to copy their mistakes. I am free to make my very own mistakes.
The only time you should seriously consider making stylistic flaws on purpose is when you emulate an exact style of an individual master. You can never make generic mistakes. The only good way to get irregularities in the work that are similar to those of the ancient masters is to be as good as they were and work as quickly as they did. If we try to include mistakes in our own work before we reach the same level of mastery as they had, we are only making excuses for our own limited skill and understanding. "

That seems kind of deep for me. There are always flaws that i see in anything i make. It used to bother me more than it does now (and it still bothers me plenty) but i realize that most people who see things i make don't see the flaws that i do. I never "try to include mistakes in my work" i just do my best and try to make it as perfect as my skill allows.
