I have been watching this thread, Tim you are a crazy thinker. I am curious how it will turn out.
I had to google what a Ulu was. You guys throw me off so much with your fancy words. Ha.
What I want to know is if an ulu can be honed well enough to shave with...
Thats OK, I googled sprockets to get more information and ending up watching the old SNL Mike Myers spockets sketches.
Talk about a smiling edge!
And then get sidelined watching the Jetsons
watching the Outlaw Josey Wales...
I ended up watching Path to Glory last night.
Well worth it in my opinion.
A little slower at work today though......
I decided against Mikes advice and think it out completely. I might have gotten $o.25 for it at a garage sale so I figured the fun was worth that much.
It was very soft and that surprised me for a sprocket. I don't have any idea what "steel" it is other than that it is magnetic. I will take the advice of not working with unknown material until if and when I get more knowledgeable.
I will file this idea away in the back of my mind for further consideration.
Fun during my lunch break, and that is paid!
This could be a 300 series stainless steel. Magnetic, not very hard but very tough, cheap, hence good for a sprocket.
Listen to all the experts tell you why it can't be done, then do it anyway. Lots of stuff to learn that way. That little wire in the field that zings or buzzes...don't pee on that one.
Or those stupid ribbons.... I was on a seismic drilling crew and had to move one to get a rig through. Had never seen one up until that wet and rainy day..... They tickle a little....
