New Alfred Pendray razor project

The diamonds are 0.06 carat each, VSI clarity (which is middle of the scale) and the color is Wesselton, which I was told is almost top level.
I met this jeweler at an exposition and this is our first cooperation project. I'm definitely going to do more of these projects with her. She was really helpful and communicative.

These are her contact details in case you want to see her other work.

The diamonds were more expensive than I anticipated. For a brief millisecond I considered cubic zircon (she did give me a quote for that) but I discarded the idea the very same moment. It would be extremely bad taste to have a full Pendray steel razor, natural rubies and sapphires, a substantial amount of gold, and then cheap out with cz.

This is going to be an awesome project!

Something tells me that this will not be done in time for Pete to bring it to Texas. Not sure that I'd risk checking it anyway I suppose.

You're right on both counts Victor.

There's no way, no how, that I would put that razor in a suitcase and entrust it's fate to the airlines.

The razor I got from Charlie last year went home First Class 2 day delivery with plenty of insurance.

I'll bring Bruno's razor to Dave's in the fall when I drive if it's done by then.

today I cleaned up the outline, and finished the pre-HT hollow grinding. The hole at the end of the tail will contain a gold medallion. In the end the gold will be held between those 2 prongs, but I am not separating them until after HT.

I included a closeup of the blade hollow during grinding (80 grit). It is very tricky to capture well in a picture, but you can clearly see the alignment of the wootz carbides already. That is a very good sign, because it proves that nothing bad happened during forging.

@petercp4e I am thinking jimps on both top and bottom of the tang, and I would make the jimps bold and strong on this one.
Also what is your opintion about the teardrop hole near the place where the medallion will be?
I left it like that so you could see it (and I cannot add metal dust when I've filed it bigger :D ) but I could file it out some more in the direction of the pivot hole. That way, that hole would be a little bit bigger, and the outline of the hole would match the outline of the tail a bit more. But then it won't be a teardrop anymore.

Bruno, I like the idea of the jimps.
The teardrop hole is nice, but I think extending the hole towards the pivot as far as you can, even up to where the metal gets narrower, would be really cool. I think that the less metal that is in that area, the more the medallion will stand out. Maybe mark it with a Sharpie and see how it looks and what you think. If you think it would look better then go for it.

I don't know if it's possible but I also like the idea of making the whole outside edge of the tail a little more teardrop shaped and streamlined and a little less square and bulky?? Then you could leave the teardrop shaped hole. The bottom edge under the holes, in particular, almost looks too flat. Let me know what you think.
