Got this in the mail today. "Shockwood" handle with a 24mm TGN finest knot in it. Hand turned by a friend of mine. It is his part of a trade for a razor made by me. I just need to get off my butt and get my end finished....

That's a nice looking brush, reminds me that i have a couple knots waiting for handles. Too many hobbies!

Is that shokwood? I thought shokwood was a resin / burl hybrid.
I used if for scales for a while. But you can't pin the resin part properly (too soft) and there is a risk of the resin separating from the wood.

It is just that Bruno. It is a square cut block of resin/burl that he turned to a brush shape. He has a thinner piece the same color pattern for a set of scales for me when I get those two blades done but it has burl on both ends so you don't have to pin the resin. There is still a little chance of it separating like you mentioned, but he's had good luck with this supplier in the past and them lasting well.

You could use a liner on the scales for strength.
