On the plate

This was a guilty pleasure: After diner, taking tablespoon sized scoops of mashed potato with carrot, and then scooping chicken grease from the pan after having fried chicken. And not quitting until all the grease is gone. Because I'm a pig. And now I'm a happy pig. :D
your hair is shinny too

Well, no sushi on the plate today :(
We decided on what we were going to have, and called in and asked if we could order.

They wrote down the entire order andvthen mentioned we could only pick up after 9 pm because they had several large orders to finish first....

Fries and burgers it is

Today i made sushi myself. I used smoked fish instead of raw. I vastly underestimated the effort involved, and the kitchen resembled a war zone afterwards. But it was tasty!

Shiitake soup. First attempt. Already very delicious! Future improvements: double the amount of shiitake and double the amount of spring onion. Use different spices on the chicken.

This soup is very, very hot!

Just had a hearty bowl of this soup at work. Very pleased with the result. It actually tastes like the soup I used to order from the Chinese place, except it is much better because the shiitake haven't been boiled to rubber. I've put 5 more portions in the freezer. If they make it through that, I am going to buy more plastic containers for the freezer because this is soup, the way soup is meant to be.

Good thing I buy my sambal chili paste on amazon in large containers, because I made roughly 3/4 gallons of soup (which is 6 portions) with about 6 heaped table spoons of sambal paste.

Ever since I (mostly) quite drinking alcohol, I've developed a taste for scorching hot food.

I was at a course in Victoria in early January, and seeing as how there was another guy in the course that did not have regular access to a sushi place either, we went and made a gluttonous display of eating sushi. When the waiter came by for the fourth time to see if we wanted anything else, I said I would like to see the desert menu, and he actually said “You have got to be kidding!”

Yesterday was sushi day.
I mixed the rice with the vinegar when it was still warm that made a difference.

I also used raw tuna and salmon. There is a huge supermarket nearby where the fresh produce section has a dedicated sushi stand. They make goodlooking sushi, but they also sell neat slices of sashimi grade raw fish when you ask. I think in total it was 25 euro for 3/4 pound of fish. Not cheap but affordable.

My daughter helped roll and cut the sushi. She did pretty well for a first time. I admit last time i went to the sushi place in town, i asked if my daughter could watch the chef. That was a bit of a ruse because i wanted to see his technique and i was able to see how he rolled and squeezed.

Pickle Pizza or Basil Pizza.

Tonight although the Basil one was very good in its own way, the Pickle one won!
