I have been having fun with the smoked pork belly. $30 USD for the meat but I still have some left and counting the meals ate from that overall it has been a pretty cheap meat week!

I guess you could add my time but divide that up and it is still relatively cheap.

It’s hard to get big cuts here. I remember going to the store for meat with TC. It was just a regular store, but all the block ready meat packs were available on the floor. Around here unless you have a meat cutter that you can can talk to about getting a decent price on block ready, don’t bother. The last time I wanted block ready the meat cutter want the same price per pound for block ready as cut meat. When the kids were all at home and there were seven of us for supper every night, we bought all out meat block ready. When I made a sirloin roast, it was the whole sirloin. I miss the old meat cutter, he retired. Big cuts are so much less money per pound or kilo.

A little humidity added to the house today.

Decided to try smoking some cow tongue and am boiling them first.

Breakfast was leftover chicken and veggie chicken nuggets, bacon, some hash brown from the freezer and eggs.

I quite like chicken. Recently I saw chicken sausages at the store, I thought yeah, I’m not a fan of breakfast sausages so this should be a welcome change. They make them taste the same as pork breakfast sausages. It was disappointing to say the least.

As a general rule anything that is a copy or trying to imitate the original falls short in my opinion.

Sort of off topic but I feel is a good example is a book made from a movie or the other way around.

Whichever came first is the best!

Some of the vegetarian things are pretty decent things in their own right. the 'chicken' nuggets are decent. Some other meat replacements are good. Some are bad. It's a bit trial and error. We have tried the 'beyond meat' burgers and I found them excellent. I am willing to bet that if you put those in a bun with the normal relish and other condiments, half the people wouldn't know it's not real meat.

My youngest is interested in animal rights issues and I agree with her on that. Just because I eat meat doesn't mean I think animals shouldn't be treated properly. And so one time per week we eat vegetarian, give or take. Some of those things are pretty good actually but it is true that you should regard them in their own right and not compare them specifically to what they aim to replace.

Although one time I had vegetarian chicken with feta cheese, and my wife had finished hers and not noticed it wasn't actual chicken.

Meh. 'Lord of the Rings' disagrees with you. :)

Some of the so called meat now a days has so much stuff added to it that the meat is just a filler anyway.

A vegi burger is not much different other than meat as a filler it uses some sort of vegetable material.

Again as a general rule I think that other than a little salt and black pepper good quality meat needs nothing added

Free range, or grass fed beef tastes way different than the stuff that goes through the finishing lots and then the bigpacking plant. My preference is always for the grass fed, free range meat. Chicken I have a similar opinion of, and I’m not sure about pork.

Gotta let this cool down and see how it tastes.

Dehydrated apples expanded more than thought.

If I don't reply in two days my wife made it and call the police!:D!
