The stand is musk ox horn. It was a gift from the late Bill Barber. I have some big horn sheep horns at home that I will make a specific stand just for that one razor. The stone that is in the handle is my birthstone. If they have scraps like that for cheap at the show, you can take them hone and fashion all sort of stands, add a couple of magnets and things could appear quite tricky.

With no reference proportion is hard to tell.

With DrD's pictures what I assume is marked as the pivot hole looks to close to the blade.

I am not saying it is wrong just that it looks close.

At first look from on the phone I thought the stand was a geode. I was also wondering how it stayed in the stand,but the magnets explain that one. I am definitely a fan of the world's spine too.

Here are a few more pictures to give some scale:

The pivot hole is about 1.5 inches from each of the shoulder and the tip of the tail:

which matches fairly well with the dimensions of the 72V (which is where I appropriated the heal design from)

and gives it a longer tail than the "spike".
The tang/tail will be approximately "rectangular", starting with a width of about 10mm at the shoulder and then tapering down to a width of about 8 mm and thickness of 2-3mm at the tip of the tail.

If you're not sure, you can always just glue on a piece of cardboard in the shape of the scales in the open position. That way you can hold it.

It doesn't have to be difficult. :)
For example, to check the orientation of the edge in relation to the tang, and the taper of the tang, I just use a microfastener to screw 2 rectangular pieces of wood to the tang as if they were scales. That way it will be instantly visible if everything aligns and angles properly. And if anything needs adjusting, I just eyeball it during grinding and check again.

I will admit that i have not thought about the tapper of the tang as far as how think it should be from side to side that is. Im just trying to pick up all this great info before i get the blank in my hands.

Bruno, is this tappering something ee will need to do or something that you do when doing your next part?
Think i need to go stare at my razors more.

Thats kind of what i was thinking bruno, at first I had all sorts of extravagant ideas.then I remembered my skill level having never done this before, and have decided I better go more simple. Just shape the blade do a thumb notch and a double finger tail. I had thought of a worked spine but for now that might be above my skills to make both sides completely symetrical.

Do'nt worry about the taper. That's what I take creae of. You only need to worry about the outline of the razor, so to speak.

Thats good to hear. I'd rather have the pro figure out the real important parts. Plus I dont think I could do that very accurately with a dremel. Ha.

Blade looks a bit short. Or is it just wider than i think? That roundness on the heal looks very round. Smooth. Nice job.
