I was gonna suggest a search option but I was not logged in , than noticed once I was logged in the search box was there. For what it's worth the search box here works better than the one at SRP altrough over there all you need is to make your url look like http://sharprazorplace.com/?q=searchterms where searchterms is what your looking for ie hones and the results will show up in your browser as apposed to on te website because the search is powered by google so it is doing external searching too.

I had given up on forum search engines quite a while ago. found that using google with the forum url at the end is usually pretty productive.

On SRP, they run VB version 4 which is quite ancient. The inbuilt search is kinda kludgy.
Xenforo is much newer and modern.

New doesn't always mean good, but the main advantage is Xenforo doesn't carry more than 20 years of legacy cruft in its codebase to deal with infrastructure software spanning the software equivalent of stone age to modern times.

wow , I thought they at least kept up the BE . VB 4 .... wouldn't DOS 6.x be more secure thcn?what are the Donations for?
I think it will be near impossible for them to upgrade seamlessly without programming knowledge.

I mean VBulletin 4, not Visual Basic 4 :)

Having administered it for a decade, I truly hate the VB internals. 2 decades worth of cruft hasn't done it any favors in terms of maintainability.
We discussed upgrading it to xenforo many times, but for various reasons and arguments between the owners, it never happened.
Now, I only have to worry about this place. And because it is modern software, maintaining it is a breeze.

that's good, how modular is it? so if something newer skinnier and yes prettier comes along it won't be a nightmare to migrate to it.

The major board brands have conversion paths coming from other major boards.
SRP has the issue that a lot of stuff has been bolted on over the years, and migrating that is going to be rough.
Not insurmountable of course, but just a lot of work and fixing a bazillion minor issues.

This place is still stock Xenforo. Not installing any plugins or doing any manual (server side I mean) configuration was a requirement for me. And Xenforo has most common modern features built in. If we want to upgrade, then moving from our current version to the next one is as simple as creating a support ticket with our hosting provider.

at least with xenforo you can use plugins without fear. you copy plugins somware else, upgrade, then copy them back since plugins do not effect the board's core, the reason for the copy and replace of the plugin directory is because the upgrade process just over writes all files and directories but to brand, add features you will have to use plugins and possible a robot.txt
