What did you do this week?

Can you show a picture? I've been hearing about gator piss and I'm curious.
Remember, this was not prepped properly at all. Rough quick sanding at 400 grit just to get the little bit of remaining color off then into the etch.
I left it for the recommend 20 minutes, but I could tell after 2 it wasn't going to etch evenly from whatever is probably impregnated in the blade from using.
I took it out, neutralized, and sprayed with wd40. They say to leave it for 6 hours to let the black set, I left it about 15 minutes and wiped it with a paper towel. No sanding or anything else afterwards except back to using.
So while the results are not perfect, i am quite impressed with what i got versus what poor prep i did.

2457

2455

And one san mai billet for boris
2456

And 1 camp knife in memory of Scott. It waa made with a leftover of one of those damascus billets i taught people to make during one of those meets. Randy told me to take it home i think he or ron made it. It's been near my forge for years and i never did anything with it. I was was thinking about those good times and then i noticed it and decided to make a camp knife because i remember Scott loved them. I think he has at least 3 of mine.

My holiday started and i decided to finish a project that was on the backburner for a while now. It was a prototype for 2 wootz blades and while the customers are waiting and i have several razors i should work on, i wanted to have some fun.

Explosion damascus. Damascus guard, walnut handle.

For myself I have smoked some salt. Still in the process and wondering how it will turn out....

The salt I did is not the best. I think that it is t small of grain.
I have some chili infused salt. It is relatively large grained.

It's funny because youd think that small grain has increased surface area so it would absorb more of the smoke.

Then again I know nothing of smoking. :)

Part of the issue at least is that that it packs to tight in the pan and doesn't allow the smoke between the grains.

Maybe this is the project of the day but oh well here it is. I have been thinking of this for many weeks/years....

I planted this tree and it took 7 years to produce a crop. The City planted a tree in the boulivard that blocks the light and the neighbors have a very tall tree close. I decided to let it grow as tall as it wanted.

I can't reach many of the apples and when they hit the ground they are in rough shape.

I am going to try to catch them and see what happens.

This week i did no work.
Well not entirely true i wrote another 15 pages for my book but that's not blade related.

In my day job i am currently doing sysadmin work but i am originally a software developer specializing in 'under the hood' work. I started writing a book about a niche topic i used to work with called DCOM. The last real book was written 15 years ago. These days noone really publishes anything related anymore because it's not a sexy topic anymore.

However quite a lot has changed over time and i had the desire to write book just for the sake of writing it and having my name on it. I still have a lot of work to do. I started in 2022, then put it aside for a while and now ive resumed. I'll either try to see if i can use my old contacts to publish via Microsoft press and if not I'll self publish on Amazon.

My plan is to have the draft ready by end ofvthe year.

The only side of my house that doesn't have good window showed in the morning that the neighbors tree "sort of' landed on my house.

No leaks at the moment but it won't be removed until Friday. We just got our electricity back!

We will see if it is worth putting in an insurance claim. Sounds like it will.

I heat treated a bunch of razors and did the rough hollow grinding. 5 wootz and 2 damascus. Also a small damascus fixed blade and a wootz pocket knife blade.

I bought a pocket knife kit to figure out how they are built and decided to replace the blade with a wootz one.
