Juma is special material btw. The resin or whatever the shiny materials are, are polarized. You cannot make bookmarked scales the normal way because when you cut it lengthwise, the show side of one of the pieces will be on the inside. So you have to cut out a rectangular block, in a place where the pattern is close to symmetrical, and have the axis of symmetry in the middle. Then you cut it lengthwise, flip one of the piece, and proceed to make scales as normal.

I have to say that in this case, they still came out near perfectly bookmarked, but that's a sign I got lucky to begin with, and then managed to not screw up

100 + layers, done by hand. One of the last I did without power hammer. Scales will probably be buffalo bone.

honestly, a blade like that, without scales, would be cheaper than you might think. And while I usually don't sell them unfinished, people like you would be able to pull off the sanding and etching as well, and get it even cheaper. Send me a pm if you're interested.

If i bought that blade if then have to hire Rezdog to make custom scales for it.

Then, ship it to Sharptonn for pinning. This blade is getting spendy by the minute.

Bruno made me a great offer on this blade. And it was well worth the price, thats for damn sure. Unfortunately it just beyond what i can shell out for a razor. I even went as far as to show it to SWMBO to show how beautiful it is and explained the quality and layering involved.

Its still a no-go. One day i will get a custom, but it wont be anytime soon.

The pattern is basically the end grain of a 'loaf' of damascus. Think of it like slicing a piece of bread from a loaf.
This means that you can hollow grind this without distorting the overall shape of the pattern.

The scales are going to be dark blue acrylic. That was the request from the customer.

Not bad for a first try. I see what I did and figured out the rest of where I am trying to go with this.

If any of you have a good idea and want to save time figuring out all the problems before production...just hint to Bruno that you shouldn't do it, it's a waste of time and resources, or it can't be done. Then watch this space.
