Hey Joel, welcome!

This place is a bit less traffic intensive than Srp, but it's the perfect place to ask questions regarding razor making, workshop issues etc. We jave a small community that checks in daily!

You can ask specific questions but you're also wrlcome tp start threads to chronicle your activities. I am currently documenting the build of my hydraulic press in the forge section.

This place is basically the digital equivalent of us hanging out in @Charlie Lewis 's workshop and talking shop.

Have you already done razors or what type of blades have you been mostly making? I usually do razors and kitchen knives

I have not done nor used a single straight razor as of yet. I have been strongly advised to use one for a while before attempting to make one and that's what I believe I'll do.

Like I said, I've been doing knives as a hobby for around 2 years. With a full time job as a car mechanic and being father of two, I don't have a lot of shop time available so I manage to make around 8-10 knives a year. I've been doing mostly kitchen knives since I've had(and still have) a lot of demand. I posted my latest work in the knives section.

I bought an extra tooling arm and a 5" contact wheel for hollow grinds specifically with the intent on making razors. I hope it's the right radius :D

Btw the 5" wheel is a good choice. I use a 4" for most of my razor work but 5 will do just as well.
Razor grinding is not complex, in the sense that it is not complicated to understand it at a cerebral level.
It's just one of those things you have to do for a while before you get the feedback loop between your fingers and your brain dialed in.
Are you planning to start with stock removal, or with forging your own blanks first?

That's a good plan. It's definitely easier to learn this way, regardless of whether you start forging blanks later on.

Show me that again!
Welcome Joel. Glad you found this site too. Both are great forums so enjoy your time at both. Here you will find more details of what your looking for in making razors. SRP is more of a shaving restoring forum. But it has a little of everything. These folks here can help you to understand the details of your quest.

I have never made a razor or knife so i cant help you. Learning to use a razor is a great plan. It will give you an understanding of why a razor is made how it is.
